Special Day at the Courthouse Law Week activities began Friday, February 22 when over special needs students and their teachers visited the Historic Courthouse for guardianship presentations by local and state judges and attorneys, and received resource guides about special education law. It has been sponsored and promoted by the American Bar Association since , when President Dwight Eisenhower designated it a national holiday. The rule of law requires that no one be above the obligations of the law or beneath its protections, and it stands as a bulwark against the arbitrary use of government power. Entries should be no longer than words and will be judged on general appearance, structure, content, creativity and originality. The packet for next year and winning overall essays are below. First-place winners will automatically be entered in the statewide contest. Students will compete in three categories, grades , and Awards are given to programs that have found creative ways of reaching out to schools and the community, and have forged strong partnerships with other groups to deliver the message about the benefits of the rule of law. Free speech and free press are prominent topics in public discourse and litigation. In addition, each student was given a plaque and a medal. All entries should be sent to the judging coordinator listed in the flier.
